Happy New Year! This is our first issue of 2012, and a year of many firsts. As we enter our 8th year of publishing Mason-Dixon ARRIVE,
we want to thank all those who make it possible to bring you this publication – the writers, editors, designers, ad sales team, admin help,
distributors, but especially the advertisers, who allow us to provide it for free to our readers. Current market indications are very
positive for a great spring. The economy is on the mend, people are spending money again – this will translate to home improvements and
discretionary buying. Our HOME & GARDEN section, which will continue through early summer, will provide the perfect inspiration to get
your planning started. We have lots of local businesses that can help you through the process. Please contact our advertisers to request
a quote and let them know that you saw their ad in ARRIVE.
CHANGE IS COMING
Each year we analyze comments from readers, advertisers and potential advertisers to make improvements to our concepts. Taking these into
consideration, we are making several changes this year. The first is that we will publish bi-monthly through the summer, publishing a total
of 7 issues instead of 12. This past year held early promise for our local businesses, but the economy faltered and fizzled by summer.
Strong holiday sales have perked up our retailers but they are still juggling a tight line while hoping for a strong spring; others have
simply closed. This new schedule will allow advertisers to stretch their marketing expenses, while continuing to reach the highest number
of readers through ARRIVE.
We strive to provide the most relevant print medium, in the areas we serve. Other changes will be rolled out next month, our official
8th Anniversary. We launch a new section, BOOMERS: Healthy, Wealthy, Wise & Well-Travelled, with stories geared to adults aged 48-66,
but especially, “leading edge boomers” who came of age during the Vietnam War and Watergate, now aged 55-66. This powerful demographic
is driving the economy with its buying power and obsessions with health, wealth, learning and travel.
Another ‘first’ is a cover story showcasing our readers in their Ravens Nest. We will be showing you many more homes throughout the year,
featuring readers in their favorite rooms. If you would like to submit your FAVORITE SPACE for consideration, please send a photo and brief
explanation to editor@mdarrive.com, put FAVORITE SPACE in the subject line. We are looking for terrific design, utility, unique and fabulous
spaces, including family rooms, kitchens, work out rooms, wine cellars, patios and gardens. Wherever you spend your time relaxing … share it
with us! Thanks for reading!
